Your Training
The course we offer is far more advanced than any other of its kind. It will not only show you how to use the techniques of hypnosis to diagnose causes and cure the real problems, but will also give you an understanding of neurobiology, psychology, genetics and other relevant topics.
Professional training in Hypnotherapy must prepare you well. This course will do that very comprehensively and very enjoyably.
You don't need a scientific background to understand the technical aspects: your tutor has had years of practice in explaining them to clients as well as to students. He will use an informal approach and plain English to make sure you understand.
You will see that this course combines intensive training with a heavy practical element. This does NOT mean hard labour: the sheer fascination of the subjects covered makes it an absorbing and enjoyable experience. It is only with hindsight that you realise just how much you have covered and how you have extended your perception of what makes people into personalities.
You will see that the course can be taken on a part-time basis. This is to help students fit the training more easily into their present commitments and also to spread the costs.
The best therapists are those who have had some experience of life and its difficulties. It is therefore usual to be over 30 years of age.
Your training will have been much more comprehensive than that offered by other courses so you may well find that right from the start you have a much better appreciation of the causes and treatment of illnesses than many existing therapists, even those who have been practising for years.
Your Tutor
Roger M. Sleet, B.A. (Hons) Psych, F.I.N.T., G.H.R., S.Q.H.P. is one of the most experienced and respected Hypnotherapists in the U.K., and is one of the few tutors authorised by the Institute of Natural Therapy to train new therapists in the most up-to-date and effective techniques of Hypnotherapy. He qualified as a psychologist, but has since forsaken his membership of the British Psychological Society in favour of what he considers to be the more effective and powerful techniques of modern Hypnotherapy.
He was the first hypnotherapist to be used by the police in a murder enquiry in the U.K. As a result of this, evidence gathered in this way is now acceptable in British Courts of Law. He has also worked alongside U.N. psychiatrists, and has written books on Hypnotherapy.
During the late 1980s, he worked more and more with cancer cases, and developed powerful techniques which proved to be very successful. Although he has now retired as a practising therapist, he has passed them on to the established members of the I.N.T. only. These techniques are therefore not known outside this organisation.
A former tutor at Sheffield University, Mr Sleet has many years experience in teaching complex subjects in a straightforward, down-to-earth way. Technical jargon is kept to a minimum and explained clearly and simply.
The course is designed to be as practical as possible and training is by personal tuition. This means you can immediately question anything you don't understand and discuss specific points as they arise.
All training is directed towards a therapeutic application and is given by someone with many years experience in helping real people overcome very real problems.
The tutor's experience means your station in life is of no importance. He has trained people from all walks of life. However, those trained have one thing in common - they are all caring people.
Validation
The Beltain Centre's Professional Hypnotherapy Training Course is authorised by the Institute of Natural Therapy and has been Assessed and Validated at Practitioner Level by The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (UK). Successful graduates are eligible for professional registration with The General Hypnotherapy Register (the GHSC's Registering Agency).
The Institue of Natural Therapy
The I.N.T. is a well-established Institute, founded in 1987. First and foremost, it aims to provide the best treatment and to protect the interests of the client. It was set up:
- to ensure that the training given to prospective therapists is to the highest standards,
- to ensure that the training is followed up with help, guidance, advice and advanced training,
- to ensure that the highest ethical standards are maintained by its members,
- to provide an organisation to which the general public and the media can go for information and advice.
The I.N.T. is a member organisation of G.H.S.C. (General Hypnotherapy Standards Council)
As a prospective student for this training course, you may rest assured that the quality of your tuition will be to the highest standards. While the I.N.T. is not a training organisation, it does recognise and authorise Tutors who are both tried and tested in the field of Hypnotherapy and have undergone a rigorous Teacher Training Course to I.N.T. standards.
The I.N.T. also has to be satisfied that you are competent. At the end of the course you will sit the Entrance Examination. If you are successful in this, you will receive a certificate and be invited to apply for Licentiate Membership of the Institute.
Training Location
Courses will normally be held in Dorset's County town, Dorchester at the Beltain Centre of Natural Therapies.
Timetables
The comprehensive foundation training will normally be spread over 6 months or more and includes direct teaching, supervised practise, home study with tutorial support and case studies.
Specific dates and times for the course would be discussed at the pre-course interview.
We do not offer correspondence courses: "distance learning" is totally inappropriate for such comprehensive and practical professional training.
Course Fees
The total cost of the course is £2,250. This covers full tuition to I.N.T. standards and comprehensive documentation. There is no additional examination fee.
Payment arrangements are normally agreed at pre-course interviews.
In all cases, a deposit of £150 will be required
The balance for the three modules is:
Module 1 - £750
Module 2 - £750
Module 3 - £600
Payment of these balances may sometimes be spread over the duration of the course at a rate of £150 per direct teaching day, payable on arrival.
Documentation Supplied
All students will be supplied with:
- therapy transcripts as used in most centres,
- CDs containing relevant information,
- some handouts will be supplied but students are also expected to make their own personal notes,
- a ring binder of A4 size will be provided
How To Proceed
Applications should be made directly to the Tutor by completing the Contact Form. We will then contact you to arrange a suitable time for you to attend a pre-course "interview" so you can meet your personal Tutor before committing yourself in any way.
Further Training in Hypnotherapy
We can offer customised courses for those with some training in hypnotherapy or for those with a suitable psychological or medical background.
Advanced training is also available for appropriately qualified practitioners.
SOME ADVICE ON CHOOSING YOUR
HYPNOTHERAPY TRAINING COURSE
The Problem
Unfortunately, any form of vocational training is expensive, and it is too easy to invest a large amount of your hard-earned cash on a course and then find you haven't got the value for your money you hoped for. One of the greatest areas of difficulty in this regard lies in the field of training courses associated with "alternative/complementary medicine". It is common knowledge that there are some less reputable organisations in this field who offer inadequate, outdated and inappropriate courses, which ultimately produce inadequate, even dangerous, "therapists". For the person who is genuinely seeking training for the right reasons, this is the problem. How can you tell who are the good guys and who are the bad guys? The purpose of this document is to offer you a few guidelines, which may help you make a more informed and satisfying decision regarding your hypnotherapy training.
Things You Should Be Aware Of
- A number of courses on offer are not really Hypnotherapy courses in the strict sense of the word. They use terms like "hypno-analysis" or "hypno-psychotherapy". In the first case, regression techniques are often used to unnecessarily examine the past to bring out traumas which are not always relevant to the problem. Reputable and informed therapists no longer work in this way. In the second case, hypnosis is merely used for relaxation purposes, after which the standard techniques of orthodox psychotherapy (including those devised by Freud and Jung) are used. This is not Hypnotherapy. Genuine Hypnotherapy is an approach which uses modern hypnotherapeutic techniques to the full, without having to resort to the use of other techniques (which many clients are seeking to avoid or which have already failed them).
- Regardless of what any promotional paperwork may say, you cannot learn to become a hypnotherapist by a correspondence course! Many people sign up for these courses, perhaps because they are more affordable. But beware. You get what you pay for. Your course should include personal and practical training on a face to face basis.
Things To Look For
- When you first enquire about your course, you should be sent a prospectus, giving details of the subject matter, costs, tutors and other relevant information. You should read this carefully and make a note of any points you would like clarified. You should also resolve not to take on the course unless these points are clarified to your satisfaction.
- A reputable course should always be preceded by a pre-course interview. You should be able to meet your tutor before you ever commit yourself to a course or part with any money. If there is no such interview, and all that is required is a completed application form, it can mean that the trainers are not fussy about who they train.
- At your interview, you should be free to ask all of your questions and expect honest answers to them. If you are not satisfied with the answers you are given, then do not sign up for the course - look elsewhere.
- If interviews make you nervous, it may help to view it as though you are interviewing them, rather than the other way around. It is an opportunity for you to make sure that you are happy to let them train you.
- Hypnotherapy training courses usually lead to the offer of membership of the Institute authorising the training. A reputable Institute will always require you to pass an entrance examination.
- You should make sure that you are offered some sort of back-up after the course has finished. All new therapists need support when they begin their new career. Help, guidance and advice should be available, free of charge.
What Makes The I.N.T. Authorised Courses So Special?
- The course is fully interactive. Students are encouraged to ask questions or seek clarification. It is as just as important to gain understanding as it is to gain knowledge. I.N.T. tutors are aware of this and are prepared to explain things in depth
- I.N.T. tutors have all undergone the Institute's "teacher training course", which not only ensures that the same core material is taught wherever in the world an I.N.T. approved course is held, but also requires that all tutors teach in a down-to-earth and realistic manner. We see no need for fancy terminology or other jargon.
- The course includes real-life case studies, including videos of actual treatments involving, on the one hand, anti-smoking therapy, and at the other extreme, the treatment of a serious psychiatric condition. The last day of the Beltain course involves a step-by-step account of a ground-breaking, and very successful study in the treatment of terminal cancer.
- Students are provided with a complete armoury of different therapies in the form of scripts, outlines, etc., which will enable them to deal with both trivial and serious conditions of a physical, psychological and/or emotional nature.
- Among the techniques taught on the course is a diagnostic system which enables therapists to establish the exact cause of any condition presented by their clients. This also tells the therapist whether or not Hypnotherapy is the most effective or appropriate approach to use. The course includes an overview of neurobiology and genetics. These subjects are helpful in explaining Hypnotherapy in scientific terms, enabling students to understand exactly how healing takes place.
- Many of the advanced techniques taught on this course are unique to the I.N.T. and are not included in any courses offered elsewhere. These techniques have been successfully "tried and tested" by I.N.T. therapists over many years and many clients have benefited from them.
- I.N.T. authorised tutors are responsible for their students for their first three years in practice. In other words, graduate students have a 3-year lifeline so that they are able to contact their tutor at any time for help, guidance or advice, as and when needed.
